One of the state's largest newspapers has selected Texas A&M's president as a finalist for "Texan of the Year."
Dr. Elsa Murano is one of 10 finalists for the honor given annually by The Dallas Morning News. Her accomplishments will be topic of an editorial in Tuesday's edition.
In nominating Murano, the paper's editors citied her as, "...the first woman and first Hispanic to lead one of the state's two flagship universities." It also noted she is the first person under the age of 50 to serve as president of Texas A&M since the 1800's.
The winner will be announced at a later date.
