A young woman from Sherman is clinging to life after a head-on collision near Madisonville killed one person.
Crystal Pointer, 22, was listed in critical condition Monday at St. Joseph Regional Health Center in Bryan.
Her sister, Amber Pointer, 23, was treated and released from the hospital.
The women were driving north on I-45 Sunday afternoon just north of Madisonville, when DPS troopers said Joe Ed Young, 74, hit their truck head-on.
Young, of Madisonville, died at the scene.
Authorities said he was driving on the wrong side of the highway.
DPS has ordered a toxicology report, along with an autopsy.
Viewers who saw the wreck said Young was driving at a high rate of speed and never slowed down. They also said he had several near misses with other vehicles.
According to troopers, Young had no known medical problems and he had a valid driver's license.
All three were wearing seat belts.
