The newest addition to the Bryan Fire Department is open for business. Fire Station 5 will provide emergency services to residents on the west side of the city.
For years, residents living in that area of town have been asking for a station, mainly due to the train tracks along Wellborn that would often block traffic. They feared the time would come when someone would a badly-needed fire engine or ambulance wouldn't be able to make it through due to a train. Even though that problem was resolved with the Villa Maria underpass, residents still got their station.
"We're just glad to be here," said Bryan Fire Chief Mike Donoho. "This is part of a long term plan to make sure that we have all of the fire stations properly located in the city to make sure that we can respond timely to the citizens' needs."
The station is located on W. Villa Maria, just down from Mary Branch Elementary School.
