A late evening bicycle ride turns deadly for a Caldwell man.

Donald Nelson, 57, was killed Sunday night while riding a bike when he was hit by a car. Authorities say Nelson died at the scene of the accident, just over five miles east of Caldwell on Highway 21.

They say the collision happened shortly after 8 p.m. when Nelson apparently rode out in front of vehicle heading west on 21.

The driver of the car, Lufkin resident John Evans, was unable to stop. DPS says the accident is still under investigation.
