Cypress Grove Intermediate is honoring the memory of Alexia Morris, a 6th grade student who passed away unexpectedly earlier this school year.

Thursday morning, students helped plant a tree in her honor.
A sign stands by that tree reading, "In Loving Memory Of Alexia Morris."

Alexia's mother and aunt attended the event which helped raise money for the Alexia Morris Scholarship, which will be given to a graduating AVID senior at A&M Consolidated High School.

Students also raised money for the scholarship by holding a pajama day, where students got to wear pajama pants to school. Her peers are also selling bookmarks in the cafeteria.

Alexia, 11, died in January after her lungs filled with fluid. An autopsy is still pending.
