The issue of sexual assault will be brought to light this week.
Survivors of sexual violence and child abuse will be honored Tuesday evening at a candlelight vigil.
It will take place at 6 p.m. at A&M Church of Christ at 2475 Earl Rudder Freeway in College Station.
The Sexual Assault Resource Center, Scotty's House and Voices for Children are hosting the event.
This is an opportunity for the community to come together and stand against all forms of sexual violence and child abuse.
This year's statewide theme, "Rooting Ourselves in Social Justice" is designed to motivate our local organizations to foster a healthy community, where all citizens can support the effort to end violent crime. The evening will focus on honoring victims of violent crime and will include the reading of proclamations, the reading of poems, and the ceremonial lighting of candles.
About two million Texans have fallen victim to sexual assault in their lifetime, one in five women and one in 20 men. One in four girls and one in six boys will be sexually abused before their 18th birthday.
