A hotel management group out of Denver will get the first shot at turning around the LaSalle Hotel in Downtown Bryan.
Bryan Commerce and Development members voted Tuesday night to begin contract negotiations with Magnolia Hotels to take over management of the LaSalle.
Magnolia was one of two finalists interviewed for the job. It was recommended as the top choice by city staff based on its readiness to assume operations and its experience with historic hotels.
During the past nine years of city ownership, the LaSalle has steadily improved revenue to the point where it's covering its operating expenses. However, city officials say it still isn't bringing in enough to cover its debt service.
