COLLEGE STATION - '7 on 7' high school football play is coming back to Bryan-College Station in the summer of next year.
The annual tournament had been held on the A&M campus since 1988, but last year rule changes by the NCAA and the SEC blocked the games from being held on a Division I field, which was the Penberthy Recreation Sports Complex.
Now the games will be back, and they'll be held at College Station's Veterans Park. Improvements have started at the facility to include a $4.4 million upgrade for new turf adult fields, an extra 400 parking spaces, and other amenities, in part added to accommodate the 15,000 or so attendees to this and other sporting events drawn to our area.
The Bryan-College Station Convention and Visitor's Bureau says the tournament is expected to have an estimated economic impact of more than a million dollars over the weekend.
