Imagine traveling from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean on a bike. It's exactly what one man is doing with his 100 Days for the Corps.
But this isn't a spring chicken making the trip, he's a senior citizen that's got nothing senior about him.
Rick Hermelin is in the process of doing something most 71-year-old's don't even dream about doing.
"I'm riding the elliptical machine from coast to coast," said Hermelin, pointing to his Elliptgo bike.
The former Marine started in Parris Island, South Carolina on March 23rd, the 53rd Anniversary of his first day in the Marines.
He plans on making it to San Diego by June 30th and he's doing it all for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
"I wanted to do it for some cause bigger than myself," said Hermelin.
Hermelin credits the Marines with preparing him for life and the determination to do anything.
"Once I decide to do something, I do it," said the former Marine.
Being in great shape also helps.
"I like to say all original parts. Nothing hurts," joked Hermelin about his body.
So far Hermelin is averaging about 32 miles a day and has so far raised over $4,000 for the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund.
He's been staying at fire departments along the way and pulled into Bryan on Monday morning.
"That's what I wanted to do with this, meet real people," said Hermelin about his trip.
Hermelin still has 1400 miles to go and lots more people to meet, but don't worry he's enjoying every minute.
"My motto is, if it's not fun, don't do it," said Hermelin.
Hermelin will be in Texas till May 27th and you can keep up with his trip or even donate to the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund through the biker's website.
We've got a link to that website below.
