KBTX to Host District 17 GOP Candidates on Morning Show

Posted: Fri 1:48 PM, Mar 19, 2010

The only local morning television newscast is scheduled to play host to the two men vying to challenge Chet Edwards for his seat in Congress.

KBTX Media and the campaigns of Republicans Rob Curnock and Bill Flores have agreed to a candidates forum during Brazos Valley This Morning on Thursday, April 1. Both men will be live to discuss their campaigns and their takes on the issues facing District 17.

Out of five candidates, Flores and Curnock earned enough votes on March 2 to make it to a runoff for the GOP nomination. Flores won 33 percent of the vote, with Curnock bringing in 29 percent.

Curnock, the Republican nominee for District 17 in 2008, is a small business owner from Waco. Flores is in his first political campaign, and is a former energy executive residing in Bryan.

The forum on BVTM will come just four days before early voting for the runoff gets underway. The election itself is set for April 13.

The winner will face Edwards, who has represented District 17 since its lines were redrawn before the 2004 general election. The Waco Democrat has served ten terms in the US House.
