State Rep. Fred Brown won the Republican Party nomination for a seat in the Legislature and appears headed for another two-year term.
Brown won early voting in Brazos County 62-38 percent. He was able to hold that margin throughout the evening in cruising to a win over Gerald "Buddy" Winn, the former Brazos County tax assessor-collector.
By securing his primary nomination, Brown earns a spot on the November general election ballot. With no Democrat in the race, he is all but assured victory.
Brown made state's rights his signature campaign issue, saying
the federal government is awash in debt and imposing too many
mandates on Texas.
