You really can't see one of the prettiest places in the Brazos Valley until you're smack dab in the middle of it.
Royalty Pecan Farms sits on Highway 21, a few miles west of the Brazos River.
For over 30 years, pecan trees have been growing on the farm's 500 acres and now that the orchard is so serene, so picture perfect, the farm is changing how it does business.
"We're changing from a producer agriculture operation to an agrotourism-tourism venue," said Andy Sherrode, the general manager of the farm.
Now you can sit and watch the world pass by on the Royalty Pecans Farm's porch.
"The best part about coming out to this particular place is the view. We're perched up here on top of a hill, you can see the tops of the orchard which go east about a mile. In the evening, you can see the lights of Bryan/College Station and if Kyle Field is lit up, you can see the lights from here," said Sherrode.
Sherrode has been working at the Royalty Pecan Farms for 25 years. To him, this orchard is a way of life and telling its story is what's important.
"This farm is to education the public not only about production of pecans in the Brazos Valley, how pecans get from the tree to the table, but also about agriculture in general," said Sherrode.
And if you want to sample some of the prime pecans, plan a trip to the orchard during football season.
"Pecans are ripe about the middle of October and that's when we begin shaking the trees and begin the six week harvest process. And that really is the best time to tour the orchard, when the harvest is going on.
Royalty Pecan Farms, a the prime place to stop and reflect on our Brazos Valley Bucket List.
