Filing for Vacant CS Council Seat Set to Begin

The filing period for the vacant College Station city council seat will get underway this coming Monday.

That filing for the Place 5 spot will run until August 27. To be a candidate, you must be 18-years-old, a College Station resident, and registered to vote in the city.

Election Day is November 2, with early voting running from October 18-29. College Station was able to hold its special election at the same time as the general election in order to save on costs.

This all comes following the death of Councilman Larry Stewart, who passed away last month after suffering a bout of pneumonia while traveling in South Africa. He was in his first term on the council.

The winner of the seat will serve out Stewart's term, which runs until May 2011.

College Station's councilmembers do not each represent a specific area of town, so any eligible resident can run regardless of where they live in the city.
