A/C Service Technicians Swamped With Calls As Temperatures Hit 90 Degrees

Air conditioners are cranking up as temperatures continue to climb.

And companies are already getting swamped with service calls.

News 3 discovered some of the most common problems technicians are encountering.

The sounds of air conditioners continue to drone in neighborhoods across the Brazos Valley and it's these guys job to keep it that way.

The first hot temperatures of the year have A/C repairmen making seven to ten calls each per day, including Barker's Heating & Cooling Technician Jack Byrd.

He was at Clifford Fry's house for preventative maintenance

Keeping his seven air conditioning units running is critical.

"Yes it is. We've got a disabled daughter and so we have people here in the house all the time and it's very important for us to have clean air and air conditioning in the summer," said Fry of College Station.

"A little bit of preventative maintenance throughout the year like keeping your unit clean can save thousands of dollars in the long run.

Climate Doctors of B/CS service technician Pete Castillo recommends you have your system serviced twice a year like this home he was at in Brazos County.

"They're starting to really run them real good and that's when now is the time where they're actually figuring out there's obviously something not quite right with my system," said Castillo.

Aside from needing cleaning, Castillo says another common problem are leaks in the system.

"The price of the refrigerant how it's been it's actually doubled this year."

"I grew up in Kingsville without any air conditioning and it never bothered me and the older I get and the longer I'm here in the summers, the more I value the air conditioning... I hope that summer is not like the last one," said Clifford Fry.

Feeling the heat already even though summer is officially still more than six weeks away.

Experts tell us most service calls will normally set you back anywhere from $125 to $200.
