COLLEGE STATION A big surprise for A&M Consolidated teacher Bart Taylor. HEB presented him with $1,000 Wednesday.
He's a finalist for the 2014 Excellence in Education award. It's is the largest monetary awards program for educators in Texas, and among the largest in the nation.
Taylor teaches IT Technology at A&M Consolidated. He's been with the district for all 14 years of his career. For him, this award is a reflection on his school and the district.
"I'm just lucky because I do teach at such a great school and because I have such support from College Station ISD," said Taylor.
"[It] is that support, that time and that commitment from the school district, from Consol, to let me be awesome and crazy and support these kids and let them be awesome and crazy just like me," continued Taylor.
Taylor says he's going to use the money for a little vacation.
This award means he's in the running for the statewide award, that could bring $430,000.
