Accused CS Murderer's Jury Selection Begins Thursday

Jury selection for the capital murder trial of Stanley Griffin is set for Thursday, his 47th birthday.

The College Station man faces the death penalty, accused of killing Jennifer Hailey at her home on Pedernales Drive in College Station. Police say the 29-year-old was choked to death by Griffin as her nine-year-old son watched.

The child was then stabbed several times in the neck, but survived the attack.

Friends said Griffin was the boyfriend of one of Hailey's former co-workers, and that he had tried to move in with Hailey, but she refused.

Jury selection will take a few weeks. About 400 people have been tabbed as potential jurors, and because it is a death penalty case, an extensive selection process is needed to vet each person in the pool.

Opening statements are set for June 18.
