As a cold front / dry line combination moves through Texas and towards the Brazos Valley, a chance of showers and thunderstorms is in the forecast this Tuesday. By late this afternoon / early evening, a few thunderstorms could bring a brief round of severe weather.
WARM, BREEZY, CLOUDY
Through 10am: 20% chance of light showers passing overhead, otherwise cloudy, breezy and muggy.
Noon to 3pm: 30% chance of isolated showers and a few thunderstorms -- mainly across the Northwestern and Central Brazos Valley. Best bet for activity will be across Milam, Robertson and Leon Counties along with a line from Hearne to Bryan / College Station to Hempstead and points west.
4pm to 10pm: A line of thunderstorms may try to form along our approaching cold front / dry line combo. Rain / thunderstorm chance will increase to 50% -- some of which could be on the strong to severe side, especially for points along I-45 and to the east.
SEVERE WEATHER POTENTIAL
A SLIGHT RISK for severe weather has been placed over the entire Brazos Valley for this afternoon and evening:
The good news about this thunderstorm / severe weather potential is that we'll be able to watch activity to our north and west before that line of thunderstorms potentially makes a move towards the Brazos Valley. You can stay ahead of any storms that manage to form across the state today by using our Interactive PinPoint Radar.
Should storms become severe, it will most likely occur as drier air from the west clashes with the warm, muggy air currently in place. That will coincide with the thunderstorm chance between 4pm and 10pm.
Main concerns for our brief window of severe weather will be:
--Strong, potentially damaging winds in excess of 50mph to 60mph
--Hail up to the size of quarters
