Mike Sherman addressed the media Friday one day after he was fired from his head football coaching position at Texas A&M.

His firing and the way it was handled has been the talk of Aggieland and beyond.

News 3 has reaction from the radio airwaves about the future of Aggie Football.

"Yeah it's classless Steve. It's very disappointing, it's very disappointing in the way it was handled," said Chip Howard, a sports talk show host at 1150 AM The Zone.

Aggie fans are giving an earful over the abrupt firing of Texas A&M Head Football Coach Mike Sherman.

The phone lines lit up all afternoon during Chip Howard's sports talk show Friday.

"Calling a coach on his cell phone who's three minutes from going to his prize recruit to tell him, 'Hey don't go to the recruit's house you've been fired,' after someone in the athletic department has already leaked that to the media, that's not the way to do business," Howard said.

The airwaves and internet were also a flurry of activity after former Texas A&M and Pro Football Player Hunter Goodwin sounded off on the TexAgs Radio Show.

"Take away whether or not he should be fired. I'm not arguing whether or not he should we can debate that all day long but they have a duty to this university to handle it the right way," said Goodwin.

As Aggie fans vent their frustrations on how Coach Sherman was fired a new debate is swirling about who would be best to replace him.

"Look I like Kevin Sumlin I liked him when he was here the first time. I don't know if he's ready to take Texas A&M to the SEC," said Chip Howard.

"He was an honest man. But I am so disappointed in what they did and it's really gonna be hard for me to renew my season tickets and I've done it for 42 years," said a caller named Catherine during Chip Howard's radio show.

"Yeah Chip I was just thinking earlier in the week you know what a joke Jeff Toole's [Aggie Athletics CFO] comments were on TexAgs and now with the handling of this situation I think our administration does look like a putz," said another caller named Larry.

Passionate arguments from some of the most dedicated football fans in the country.

Sherman's future plans are uncertain but he said Friday returning to the NFL is a "strong possibility."
