BRYAN, TX An area church organization is taking donations in preparation of hurricane season.
Adventist Community Services as well as Three Angels Seventh-Day Adventist Church in College Station are sponsoring a Hurricane Awareness Week and taking items that will be distributed to our region when the next hurricane hits.
They are collecting personal care kits and flood buckets which need items like hand towels, new unwrapped underwear, wash cloths, soap and toiletries, and cleaning supplies.
"During Katrina and Ike we had the influx of people here and we weren't prepared for it. And mainly it's because of that that we're doing it this year. We want to be prepared for another influx like that," said John Dixon of Adventist Community Services Disaster Response.
The church organization will be receiving items and cash donations at the Brazos Center in Bryan from noon until 10 P.M. Monday as well as noon to 10 P.M. Tuesday in the back parking lot.
The list of items being taken includes:
Underwear Kit (men and women all sizes)
must be brand new and in its wrapper per state law
Personal Care Kit
hand towel, wash cloth, comb, bar of soap, nail file or finger nail clippers, tube of toothpaste or toothbrush in original wrapper
adhesive strip and bandages
bleach (1 quart or 32 ounce bottles)
scouring pads, scrub brush, sponges (7 pack assorted sizes)
liquid laundry detergent (25 ounces or 50 ounce bottles)
disinfectant dish soap (16 to 20 ounce bottles)
clothes pins, clothes line (50 feet or 100 feet)
24 bag roll of heavy duty trash bags (33 to 45 gallons)
Monetary donations accepted as well.
