The Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce celebrated another year of supporting local businesses.
The annual banquet was held Monday night at the Hilton Hotel in College Station.
It honored business people and their commitment to the area.
Texas A&M University President Dr. R. Bowen Loftin served as the guest speaker at this year's event.
Three local residents received honors at the banquet.
Local business owner and former Bryan city council member Ben Hardeman was named Citizen of the Year. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant civic contributions to the development and quality of life in the community through their own personal efforts, as well as serve as a model to those presently involved in community enhancement and business development and inspire others to bring about a better business climate. Hardeman has been involved in the Chamber of Commerce, Small Business Council, Leadership Brazos, The Downtown Bryan Association and leads the efforts to save the historic Queen Theatre.
The Chamber Volunteer of the Year Award was given to Jim Mazurkiewicz. The purpose of the Chamber Volunteer of the Year award is to recognize an individual who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in volunteer service to the Bryan-College Station Chamber of Commerce and through his or her enthusiasm and dedication has set an example for other Chamber volunteers. Mazurkiewicz currently serves as The Leadership Program Director and Professor for Texas A&M Agrilife Extension. Mazurkiewicz has been involved with the Chamber since 1998 and currently serves as the President of the Brazos Valley Fair and Expo Executive Board.
Local business owner Hans Hammond was named Chamber Ambassador of the Year. The award for the Chamber of Commerce Ambassador of the Year is bestowed upon an individual whose actions embody the essence of chamber membership and leadership. Hammond is one of the Chamber's most active ambassadors attending ribbon cuttings, chamber events and serving on planning committees. He's volunteered for numerous other organizations in town including the Children's Museum of the Brazos Valley, Cattle Baron's Ball and the Arts Council of the Brazos Valley.
