B/CS Getting Final Round of New Restaurants Before Fall

Updated: Wed 6:57 PM, Apr 11, 2012

It's no secret that folks here in the Brazos Valley love to eat out.

Here in the past few weeks, several new restaurants have opened their doors and there's more to come.

After months of construction, Fowl Digits has finally opened their doors to the hungry masses.

"Very satisfying to get the place open and see people show up," said owner Mark Holubec.

Some may wonder why a third chicken finger restaurant opened its doors on the east side of campus but the answer is simple.

"It's a great location, right across from the university. It just happens to be right between two chicken places," joked Holubec.

Fowl Digits is one of many restaurants that have or will be opening their doors in the area.

Two weeks ago, Wolfies on Harvey road opened for business bringing another sports bar themed restaurant to the area.

And in the next week or two, Lupe Tortilla will bring its Mexican food to the table.

"I couldn't tell you why they're all coming in at one time. I think it's just a cyclical thing more than anything," said Holubec.

And the list of new eateries won't stop there. Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers in Bryan is scheduled to be open in the beginning of June.

The Taco Bell at Tower Point is scheduled to open in the first week of May.

And the old McDonald's location on the corner of William D. Fitch and Highway 6 is currently in negotiations with three different fast food restaurants hoping to rent out the location.

The only other restaurant currently under construction is the Panera Bread on University drive. They hope to open the store over the summer. After that, this round of restaurants may be the last till the fall. According to the College Station and Bryan Planning and Development departments, nothing is on the slate when it comes to new restaurants.
