KBTX News 3 has learned Bryan Texas Utilities General Manager Dan Wilkerson has announced he will retire on June 30.

Wilkerson submitted a letter to City of Bryan Interim City Manger Kean Register on Tuesday notifying him of his retirement. In the letter, Wilkerson states he is ready to assist with the transition for the General Manager and says it has been his honor and privilege to serve the customers of BTU.

News 3 has also learned four BTU board members -- Ronnie Craig, Ralph R. Davila, Emanuel Glockzin, Jr. and Hank McQuaide -- have resigned their positions. Glockzin is the current chairman of the board. McQuaid preceded him in that seat. Davila is the secretary and treasurer.

Last month, the Bryan City Council approved changes to the hierarchy surrounding BTU, having the BTU general manager answer to the Bryan city manager for the first time since 2001. Register was a longtime BTU employee, but while serving as interim city manager, his group manager position at the power provider was eliminated.

Wilkerson is an Aggie graduate who received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering in 1972 and has been with the city owned utility company for 34 years. When hired by the City of Bryan, Wilkerson was Manager of Electric Production and was responsible for managing two power plants. He served as Director of Utilities until 2001 when he was appointed to the General Manager position.

Wilkerson, a respected and knowledgeable expert in his field, is a former member of the Texas Public Power Association, serving as President in 1999. He has also been involved with the American Public Power Association and serves on the board of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, which is responsible for managing the flow of electric power to millions of customers in Texas.
