The Blinn College – Brenham campus Theatre Arts Program celebrates the legacy of a classic American playwright with “An Evening of Tennessee Williams” April 12-13 at the Dr. W.W. O’Donnell Performing Arts Center’s MRW Studio Theatre (map).

Presented in cooperation with Delta Psi Omega and the U.S. Institute of Theatre Technology, the play showcases Brenham theatre students in the roles of acting and directing the performance. Williams penned such quintessential American plays as “The Glass Menagerie,” “A Streetcar Named Desire” and “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.”

“Streetcar” and “Cat” were each awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, while “The Rose Tattoo,” “Cat” and “The Night of the Iguana” each won Tony Awards. Williams was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1980.

Amy Kirkland of La Grange will direct scenes from “A Streetcar Named Desire” with Jen Cegielski (Brenham) serving as stage manager. The cast includes Josh Blocker (Dallas), Corrine Booth (Round Rock) and Colleen Dougan (Brenham).

Scenes from “The Glass Menagerie” will be directed by Tyler Morton of Sealy and stage managed by Cara Gerland of Brenham. Sundi Lee (Grapevine), Karen Rush (Houston) and Austin Allie (Brenham) comprise the cast.

Theatre Arts Professor Kevin Patrick serves as technical director and Instructor Jennifer Patrick is the costume designer and guest artist.

Blinn students will also present an original work titled “Minor Inconveniences,” a dark comedy written by Theatre Arts Director Bradley Nies. Gabby Robertson (Onalaska) will direct while Jericka Gaskamp (Brenham) serves as stage manager. The cast features Jamie Calhoun (Franklin), Tribete Smith (Hempstead) and Nathaniel Guitron (Snook).

Nathan Maler (Houston) will serve on set construction. Booth will serve on costume research, Daigle and Dougan will be on the sound crew, Cegielski will serve on the properties crew and Gaskamp and Zachary Yoke (Leander) will be on the lighting crew. Morton will serve on the publicity crew and Larry Whigham (Washington) will serve as photographer.

The play is the fourth and final performance in Blinn’s 2012-13 Brenham theatre season, themed “An American Year.” The season kicked off with “Enron” in October, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” in November and featured “Biloxi Blues” in February.
