Blinn Wins Top Honors At Play Festival

The Blinn College-Brenham Theatre Arts department recently earned top honors at the Texas Community College Speech and Theatre Association Play Festival held at Weatherford College.

Blinn’s production of “God of Carnage” was rated as excellent, one of the top two honors a production can receive, and the company was rated excellent in the acting ensemble category.

Jade Brown, a freshman from Sealy, won the Greg Schneider Technical Excellence Award for scene design.

Brianda Carrasco, a sophomore from Cameron, received a Superior for Acting for her performance as Veronica Novak, and Jacob Lange, a sophomore from Brenham, received an Excellent for Acting for his performance as Alan Raleigh.

Superior Technical Awards (respondents’ choice) were awarded to Jade Brown for scene design, Leslie Little (sophomore, Brenham) for sound design, Emily Junek (sophomore, Hempstead) for costume design and Brandon Theut (freshman, Columbus) for properties design.

Superior Technical Awards (directors’ choice) were awarded to Tyler Morton (sophomore, Sealy) for stage management, Brandon Flippo (sophomore, Smithville) for lighting design, Brown for scene design, Junek for costume design and Emma Russell (freshman, Houston) and Theut for properties design. Little won an Excellent Technical Award (directors’ choice) for sound design.

The play was directed by Theatre Arts Director Bradley A. Nies, and Technical Theatre Arts Director Kevin Patrick served as faculty technical director. Jennifer Patrick served as faculty costume designer and guest artist.
