BRYAN - The Brazos County Democratic Party says calls for Governor Rick Perry's resignation are a mistake.
A Travis County grand jury on Friday indicted Perry for carrying out a threat to veto state funds to the local district attorney, an elected Democrat, who refused to resign following a drunken-driving arrest.
"I am not one of the folks calling for Rick Perry to step down as Governor and I believe it is a mistake to do so," said Maggie Charleton, Chair of the Brazos County Democratic Party.
"I am a Democrat and therefore I believe in the rule of law. You are innocent until proven guilty. Period. No exceptions. None.
I encourage all Democrats to stay true to our core beliefs and allow Perry to be the leader of his party and be the shining example of what Republicans offer the state of Texas in the November election."
News 3 will have reaction from the Brazos County Republican Party tonight on News 3 at 6:00 and 10:00.
