Brazos County farmers suffering due to last year's drought are now eligible to apply for low-interest emergency disaster loans.
Farmers that suffered a 30% loss due to drought conditions from March 1, 2010 through December 31, 2010 can apply with their local Farm Service Agency and may claim up to 80% of their losses.
Economic Injury Disaster Loans are also available to small businesses dependent on farmers and ranchers in Brazos County.
Local Farm Loan Manager, Nathan Philipello, says farmers and ranchers are suffering through another round of severe drought conditions this year. Many corn crops have dried out. Recently planted cotton crops will follow suit if they don't receive rain soon. Cattle farmers who can no longer afford to continue buying hay are forced to sell off parts of their herd.
Farmers have until November to apply. For more information, call (979) 828-3214.
