Bryan Police officers make surprise find when stopping a suspicious person Monday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m., BPD officers were on patrol near South College, when they asked a man waiting for the bus if he had seen anything suspicious. Officers say they are trying to address the burglary problem in the area.
The man said he saw a black male in a red shirt with bushy hair leave a home up the street. The man thought it was suspicious because he knows a Hispanic family lives there.
Officers patrolled and found a man matching that description off Truman, standing in front of a house. According to the report, officers approached the man, 21-year-old Ronnie Lott, and explained why they were stopping him. During the conversation, Lott had to be repeatedly told to keep his hands out of his pockets.
Lott told police his cousins lived at the house. When officers asked where he lived, he gave them his girlfriend's address, then told them he gets his mail at his mother's house.
During the conversation, dispatch informed the officers that Lott had a protective order against his girlfriend, and that he has previously threatened to shoot a police officer. Officers decided to search Lott based on that information. Officers found a .38 caliber Cobra semiautomatic handgun in Lott's front pocket and a .45 caliber semiautomatic Ruger handgun in the waistband. According to the arrest report, the Ruger was loaded with four rounds in the magazine. He also had a credit card that belonged to his girlfriend.
Lott was arrested and charged with Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon. He is being held under $4,000 bond.
