Bryan Man Arrested for Stealing Appliances

Updated: Thu 12:04 AM, Oct 25, 2012

Police have arrested a Bryan man for a burglary he allegedly committed more than a year ago.

Jose Hernandez, 21 years old, was arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation Tuesday.

Witnesses say Hernandez drove up to a home on the 1400 block of Groesbeck St. in Bryan and stole several household appliances on Sept. 22, 2011. The stolen appliances included a refrigerator, a washer, dryer, oven, and air conditioning unit. Police estimate the appliances were worth more than $1,300.

"Over the course of several months, they were able to put together a good case and they issued a warrant for Jose Hernandez," said Kelley McKethan, Bryan Police Department Public Information Officer.

Detectives discovered that neighbors had seen Hernandez pulling away with the stolen items in his truck.
Witnesses said it looked like he was headed to a nearby scrap metal yard.

Police say Hernandez sold all five household appliances to Bryan Iron and Metal Company. He walked away with only $60.

“There are times when items are brought to Bryan Iron and Metal, but they do work with us diligently to try and apprehend people bringing in stolen items,” said McKethan.

Police say Hernandez has a history of burglarizing homes and vehicles.

He remained in Brazos County Jail Wednesday with a $7,440 bond.
