Kean Register can remove "interim" from his title after 23 months.
Tuesday, the Bryan city council unanimously voted to make Register their permanent city manager. He had been the interim since September 2010.
"The City Council has been extremely pleased with Kean’s performance as Interim City Manager," Bryan Mayor Jason Bienski said in a statement. "He manages the City very well and is respected by City employees, community members, business owners and his peers. We are excited about the future of our City under his continued leadership."
Register had also served as interim for about half of 2006. Both times, he came from his job as a group manager at the city's power provider, Bryan Texas Utilities.
However, Register's position at BTU was eliminated in late 2011 as part of cutbacks. Register had expressed hope that he would ascend to the general manager position, recently vacated by the retiring Dan Wilkerson.
This year, the city council voted to give expanded powers over BTU to the city manager.
