Priya Haji was a self-proclaimed serial entrepreneur nicknamed the "firecracker" as she was born on July 4th. Little did anyone know, that nickname would speak volumes to her legacy.
At just 16 years old, she founded her first company with her father, Bryan physician, Dr. Karim Haji. Since 1987, The Health for All Clinic" has provided free health care to low income patients who don't have health insurance. From there she moved to San Francisco where she went on to found three Silicon Valley organizations, World of Good, Free at Last and her latest venture SaveUp, an online company that helps Americans save money while paying down their debts.
Family friend and SAVEUP C-F-O David Guendelman says Haji never feared failure. "She says growing up as an Indian woman in Bryan Texas she stood out and was different, but learned how to take the benefit of that difference, " he says.
Guendelman says Haji inspired a generation of social entrepreneurs through business and technology while changing the world for the better. He says the legacy she leaves behind will inspire people here in her hometown of Bryan and those all over the globe for years to come.
Priya Haji was just 44 years old. She leaves behind two small children. A fund has has been set up for them.
