With people giving thanks this holiday week, a Bryan woman is thankful to make meals for those in need.
News 3 experienced the labor of love she's been doing for nearly a quarter century.
It's where's you'll find Gloria Kennard this time every year; in the kitchen at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, preparing food for souls.
Some even strangers.
"Smoked turkeys...Whole kernel corn... And we have another homemade cake," showed Kennard.
The Bryan woman and Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church Member has led this Thanksgiving ministry 24 years.
"Well I was sitting around doing nothing and I say I need to do something for people and I talk to my lay pastor..The Thanksgiving meal is for the needy, the sick, the shut-in or whoever needs a meal," she explained.
If you think Thanksgiving means spending lots of time in the kitchen, how about cooking 28 turkeys? Volunteers are hoping to feed 450 people this Thanksgiving.
Kennard is getting help from 15 volunteers including Susie Hitchcock of College Station.
"I love you!," said Hitchcock, as she hugged Gloria Kennard.
Hitchcock has helped three years now.
"Come on out and have a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner!," smiled Hitchcock.
"It's a lot of work but it's a blessing to be able to do something for someone else...We have so much to be thankful for," said Kennard.
She gives thanks for her good health while hundreds of others will be thankful someone decided to make a difference.
Volunteers include Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church as well as Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church.
If you'd like to attend this feast, the message begins Thursday at 10:30 A.M., with the free meal being served from 11:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. at Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Bryan.
The church is located at:
