Updated: Tue 10:46 PM, Mar 05, 2013

A Bryan woman fell victim Tuesday to a phone scam after thinking her family member was in immediate danger.

Bryan police say the 61-year-old woman received a phone call from someone claiming to have kidnapped her family member and would harm them if she didn't immediately wire transfer $800.

The woman stayed on her cell phone with the scammers while she had the money transferred.

She later called police, and they determined it was indeed a scam.

If you receive a similar call contact local law enforcement.
