Bryan Councilmember Recovering After Bypass Surgery

A Bryan city councilman hospitalized after a heart attack is improving.

Mike Southerland remains at St. Joseph Regional Health Center, according to the City of Bryan. The at-large Place 6 representative was admitted to Tuesday and underwent quadruple bypass surgery.

Southerland can't see visitors right now because of doctor's orders, but could go home soon, according to the city.

"Mr. Southerland and his family would like to thank everyone for the numerous thoughts, prayers, and comments they have received during this week," according to a press release from the City of Bryan Friday. "They also wish to thank the staff at St. Joseph’s for their care."

Southerland is in his second and final term on the council, and has been in office since 2006.
