A Bryan teen and his older brother are recovering after being shot multiple times last month in Houston while attempting to sell tire rims on Craigslist.

Saturday the community came to support them during a fundraiser at the La Michoacana Grocery Store in Bryan.

Local Latino media helped spread the word too.

"La Voz Hispana" and Radio Alegria helped coordinate a fundraiser for Monica Cabrera's two sons after they nearly died at a northwest Houston apartment complex while trying to sell car rims on Craiglist on February 23rd.

Dozens of people dropped loose change and bills into containers holding pictures of 21-year-old Jason Cabrera and his brother 16-year-old Alex Hernandez.

Alex was shot in the upper back and Jason in the face after the suspects responded to the Craiglist ad.

"Basically I'm really more concerned like on the medical bills especially for Jason to get his mouth fixed because he's missing some of his teeth, a piece of his tongue I know. I mean whatever we can do to fix his mouth. They are very lucky," said Monica Cabrera, mother of the two shooting victims.

One suspect 18-year-old Deaundre Garner has been arrested in that incident and remains in the Harris County Jail.

The two brothers are expected to make a full recovery.

Saturday's event raised more than $1,000 to help pay for medical bills.

The Cabrera Family is planning a barbecue meal fundraiser sometime after spring break.
