Bryan ISD asked Bryan Police to beef up their presence on campus after the rumors spread.
While no weapons were ever found a 17-year-old student found himself in jail after officials say he assaulted a school resource officer and resisted arrest.
Rumors ran rampant on the grounds of Bryan High School this week.
Claims that a student brought a gun to school and fights were being planned to take place on campus popped up Facebook and Twitter.
News 3 even received emails.
Je'Von Grant is a senior at Bryan and was frustrated with how the rumors started.
"You know just a bunch of people running their mouth basically. It's a lot of people taking each other for granted I guess you can say everything like that. I mean saying you're going to bring a gun to school a few are saying it to get a rise out of people," said Grant.
17-year-old student Tarreze Porch was arrested Thursday for assaulting a school resource officer.
School officials say Porch matched the original description of the person rumored to be carrying a gun.
"Had he not been combative perhaps that could have been cleared up pretty quickly that he did not have a gun. So that was really a separate discipline incident over and above what all the rumors were going around," said Sandy Farris, BISD Communications Director.
Sandy Farris says parents were notified of rumors through a prerecorded message Thursday night.
News 3 spoke off camera with one parent who'd kept her daughter home for the day worried about safety.
"We had no fights yesterday we had no fights today. You know in a high school setting sometimes you hear a lot about this or that but none of that ever happened," Farris said.
But extra security was on hand in just in case.
"It was a lot of monitors walking around not just monitors but like other parts of the staff walking around making sure everything is ok and stuff like that. So I mean it was a lot more out adults, I guess you could put it like that," added Je'Von Grant.
The school resource officer suffered minor injuries in that incident Thursday including several cuts to his knees, elbows and right arm.
He was treated at St. Joseph Occupational Health Center.
Tarreze Porch's bond has been set at $12,000.
