Bryan Police issued nearly 200 seatbelt citations during the 'Click It or Ticket' campaign.

The Bryan Police Department utilized a Special Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant though the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to enhance their Click it or Ticket efforts.

Bryan PD says the extra funding helped to pay for man hours for traffic enforcement. Officers issued:

· Seat Belt citations issued: 188
· Child Restraint citations issued: 14
· Other traffic violations issued: 64
· Arrest made: 4

The goal of the campaign is to educate the public and enforce seat belt compliance among drivers and passengers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA): -
Ø In 2010, 22,187 vehicle occupants were killed in crashes, 51% were NOT wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
Ø Teens and young adults ages 18-34 years old are less likely to wear seat belts and are at the greatest risk of injury or death.
Ø On any given day about 38 people who are NOT buckled up are killed in motor vehicle crashes.
Ø One out of every five drivers will be involved in a crash this year.
