Former President George H.W. Bush is spending his 87th birthday Sunday the same place he has spent most of the recent big days: the family's summer home in Maine.

Bush is now just the sixth commander-in-chief to reach the age of 87, and is a year and 232 days from tying Harry Truman for fifth on the longevity list out of the 43 people to hold the highest office in the United States.

The 41st president is the oldest living American leader. He is 111 days older than Jimmy Carter.

Coincidentally, Bush is the only president ever born in the month of June.

His wife, Barbara, was born June 8, and celebrated her birthday reading to children at a Maine hospital that bears her name. The former first lady turned 86 Wednesday.

While the vascular disorder Parkinsonism may make the former Navy pilot and his family debate future jumps, President Bush did spend his 75th, 80th and 85th birthdays parachuting out of planes. The 2004 jump for his octogintennial celebration was over his presidential library and museum at Texas A&M University.
