A house fire in College Station has left a family homeless tonight.

Around 5:00 Wednesday evening, a home in the Southern Plantation subdivision when up in flames. Fortunately no one was hurt in the blaze.

It's a situation that's never easy to deal with but thanks to caring neighbors and a firm faith, this local family is doing alright.

When Pete Munoz found out his home of 7 years was on fire, his first thoughts were on his family.

"You hear about this happening to other people and you feel for them but when it happens to you, you feel so helpless," said Munoz.

When Mr. Munoz turned onto Fincastle Loop, the sight was almost unbearable.

"It's just really tough to sit here and watch your house go up in flames," said Munoz.

His teenage son was home at the time and heard the crackle of fire coming from the garage. He was able to escape the home safely and had to be treated for minor smoke inhalation. Pete wanted to thank the first responders first hand.

"They did a great job and I can't wait to thank them for all that they've done," said Munoz.

For now, Pete, his family, and his pets are all being taken care of by his caring neighbors and that's something he's very grateful for.

"I'm a firm believer that the Lord won't give us more than we can handle. There's a purpose and a reason for this and we'll see what that is. I just thank the Lord for the blessings that we do have and that we're all here," said Munoz.

The College Station Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire that seems to have started in the garage.

According to Mr. Munoz, he was gathering items in the garage to sell in a fundraiser for the A&M Consolidated Band.
