College Station and Texas A&M University Police are investigating a major accident that sent four people to the hospital Sunday.

"A University Police Officer observed a vehicle traveling recklessly on University Drive. The officer attempted to stop the vehicle by activating emergency lights. The officer’s signal to stop was disobeyed, and the vehicle then turned southbound onto Texas Avenue. The same vehicle was later involved in a traffic accident at the intersection of Texas Avenue and George Bush Drive," said Texas A&M Police in a statement sent to News 3.

College Station Police say it was a Toyota Four Runner going South on Texas Ave. that collided with a Cadillac Escalade traveling East on George Bush Avenue.

The driver of the Cadillac and the three occupants of the Toyota were transported to area hospitals, according to CSPD. Police say the driver of the Cadillac and one of the passengers of the Toyota were treated at the hospital and released. The driver and other passenger of the Toyota remain at the hospital.

"After striking the Cadillac, the Toyota spun across the intersection and struck two other vehicles that were near the intersection. Debris from the crash struck a fifth vehicle also near the intersection," according to a statement from the College Station Police Department.

College Station Police shut down parts of the two highly traveled streets for more than seven hours to investigate the five vehicle accident Sunday.

Police say information about the accident and possible charges are limited, because the investigation is still ongoing.

The intersection of Texas Avenue and George Bush Drive will be closed between midnight Monday and approximately 6:00 AM Tuesday morning while officers investigate the major accident.
