A very sad story out of College Station. It's a topic we ordinarily do not air, but given the location and overwhelming response, we've learned a 20-year-old College Station resident remains in a local hospital after shooting himself in the head at a local indoor shooting range.

Around 11 Tuesday morning, College Station Police received a 911 call from an employee at Champion Firearms at the 1900 block of Texas Avenue. Upon arrival emergency responders found 20-year-old Joshua Salisbury of College Station inside the shooting range with a gunshot wound to his head.

We're told Salisbury walked inside and rented a fire-arm and as soon as he got inside the shooting range -- he shot himself.

"It's a very unusual event for the citizens of our city and of course the employees at the business, and so our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the employees who had to go through this," said College Station Police Public Information Officer Chuck Fleeger.

The investigation remains ongoing. Salisbury remains at the College Station Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

College Station Police and Crime Scene investigators were called to Champion Firearms just after 11 Tuesday morning after a man reportedly turned the gun on himself.

The extent of his injuries are unclear at the time, however College Station Police Lieutenant and Public Information Officer, Chuck Fleeger says he was transported to a local hospital.

News 3 will have more information as soon as it becomes available.
