This year, during the holiday season, officers assigned to the College Station Police Department Bicycle Unit decided to do something special for a few College Station families. The bicycle officers have planned a program called Badges & Bikes. This program will involve distributing bicycles and bicycle helmets to over 20 College Station children in order to help promote bicycle safety and healthy exercise.
The Bicycle Unit was able to identify several special families with the help of College Station ISD and local social service agencies. To aid these families this Christmas, the officers collected donations from numerous businesses in the Brazos Valley. Over $1,500 was donated by businesses to aid these families.
The money collected was used to purchase bicycles & helmets. On Friday, December 16th officers with the Bicycle Unit will distribute the bicycles to the children at the College Station Police Department.
On January 14th, 2012 at 10:00 AM, the bicycle officers are inviting the children that received bicycles to Bee Creek Park for a community bicycle ride. This is an event that will be open to all members of our community and it will give children a chance to learn and practice safe bicycle riding skills while riding the bicycle trails with the bicycle officers. To register your children to ride with the College Station Police Officer Bicycle Unit go to www.cstx.gov/police for a registration form and additional information.
