Citizens are expected to attend TCEQ’s public hearing tonight to fight against a proposed landfill and transfer station in Hempstead.

If approved, the landfill and transfer station would be just north of the Highway 6 and Highway 290 intersection.

The landfill would bring nearly 200 trucks filled with trash to the area daily. The transfer station would have trucks that would unload solid waste from collection vehicles and reloaded onto larger long-distance transport vehicles for shipment.

Tonight’s meeting is the second public hearing. TCEQ tells us they normally hold one public hearing, but a lawmaker requested for another meeting.
