City to Offer Hotel Occupancy Tax Workshop

The City of Huntsville Tourism Department is still accepting applications for 2013-14 Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) funding, and an informational workshop will be held next week to assist those applicants who are new to utilizing the funds.

The workshop, which will be held on Tuesday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at La Quinta Inn, will feature guest speakers knowledgeable on HOT fund regulations, marketing and other areas.

“We are very excited to once again be able to offer Hotel Occupancy Tax funds to support events that will entice tourists to travel to the Huntsville/Walker County area,” said Kimm Thomas, Director of Tourism and Cultural Services. “This year, we’re hoping to answer many of the questions involved in this process during the workshop.

“The workshop will be mandatory for any individuals who are requesting funds and have not participated in the HOT Fund application process previously. Prior applicants or interested citizens who would like to learn more about the funding are also welcome to attend.”

Thomas said the workshop will feature Justin R. Bragiel, General Counsel for the Texas Hotel & Lodging Association and Cameron Clay with the Sam Houston State University President’s Office.

“This will be a great opportunity for applicants and citizens alike to hear from industry experts on how to spend the HOT tax, marketing and event planning,” she said. “There is limited seating, so we would encourage interested applicants to RSVP to 936-291-9726 as soon as possible.”

La Quinta Inn is located at 124 Interstate 45 North.
