Clark Street to be Renamed "Gene Stallings Boulevard"

Coach Gene Stallings, of Powderly, Texas, received his bachelor of science degree from Texas A&M in 1957. While at Texas A&M, Stallings was a member of the famed Junction Boys under head coach Paul "Bear" Bryant. In 1956, he helped the team finish 9-0-1 and capture its first Southwest Conference championship since 1939.

Shortly after helping Alabama win the 1964 national title as an assistant coach, Stallings was named the head coach of his alma mater, coaching from 1965 to 1972. Under his tenure, the Aggies won the Southwest Conference title in 1967.

The Board of Regents voted unanimously on March 8 to rename Clark Street, which is located west of the Memorial Student Center in front of Cain Hall and connects Kyle Field with the MSC. Stallings was appointed to the Board of Regents in 2005 and retired his seat on Feb. 1. The new signage for Gene Stallings Blvd. will be erected today.
