Club Soccer Teams Doing Wristband Fundraiser After A&M Consolidated Coach Loses Wife

Updated: Mon 10:39 PM, Feb 11, 2013

Members of the local club soccer community are helping a fellow coach after his wife was killed in a car accident in Milam County last week.

28-year-old Kirsten Salerno died last week after DPS troopers say another driver veered into her lane.

She and her husband A&M Consolidated Soccer Coach Stefano Salerno are both originally from Malta.

Friends are helping collect money for travel expenses so that several family members can travel here for the funeral.

The local U.S. Club Soccer teams launched a $5 wristband fundraiser Monday in memory of her.

We're told several of the Salerno family members have already made it to town.

"Basically cash to kind of give to the family and all the different areas that they are gonna need in. But yeah the tickets were quite expensive, so anything we can do to assist there is what we are shooting for," said Wade Breaux, Regional Manager of Membership Services for US Club Soccer.

The wristbands are on sale Monday and Tuesday night from 7 to 8 P.M. at the Central Park pavilion.

The A&M Consolidated High School community and soccer parents are also working on a separate fundraiser.

Kirsten Salerno's funeral has been set for Thursday night. We will have more details as they become available.
