COLLEGE STATION, Texas As College Station grows to more than 100,000 people, city staff wants to hear from you on how to manage future growth through the city's 20 year comprehensive plan.
News 3 looks at why the city says a public meeting Monday is important for College Station's future.
Business is heating up at Arbano Cafe.
The Mediterranean Restaurant just opened seven days ago at the Lofts at Wolf Pen Creek in College Station.
"Yes for the first week, yes it's an excellent reception. Our plan is still to grow within," said Owner and Executive Chef Neil Kasem.
He came from Houston to build his business.
"Well College Station really has a great potential and that's why we studied it for the last year. And we think you know between Texas A&M and the city and the real estate growth we're seeing, we thought you know for our concept it's a perfect to have the healthy Mediterranean cuisine," he added.
College Station City Staff will have an open house Monday night soliciting input from residents about the progress made during the first five years of carrying out the 20 year comprehensive plan.
Jennifer Prochazka is a Principal Planner for the city and says some of their success stories include the growing Medical Corridor along Rock Prairie Road and new growth in Northgate.
"Make sure that things are heading in the right direction, so tonight we are wanting feedback from folks to see what they may see as successes over the next five years what they may see as shortcomings over the next five years," said Prochazka.
While the comprehensive plan doesn't deal directly with traffic, city officials expect to hear a lot of comments about that.
"The comprehensive plan includes the locations for future growth and development, what types of land uses go where in the city and what size roads, what size utilities. Those types of things," she said.
"We like to grow with the city and we are seeing the growth really here, everywhere we look," said Kasem.
Planning for the future from city hall for all who call College Station home.
The Comprehensive Plan public meeting is happening Monday, March 24th from 6:30 to 8:30 P.M. at the A&M Consolidated Middle School Cafeteria located at 105 Holik Drive in College Station.
It's a come and go event.
