This year marks the third annual Badges & Bikes program that is put together by the College Station Police Department Bicycle Patrol Unit. Through this program and with the help of local businesses, CSPD is able to distribute bicycles and bicycle helmets to over 20 College Station children in order to help promote bicycle safety as well as the importance of healthy exercise.
Once again this year, in conjunction with College Station ISD, the CSPD Bicycle Unit was able to identify several special families that would benefit from this program. With the support and donations from local businesses, officers were able to collect over $1,700 to aid in the valuable program. The money that officers were able to raise will help purchase 20 bicycles to be distributed to deserving children and families in our community.
This year CSPD Badges and Bikes is partnering with St. Joseph’s Safety Circus and has been moved to May 18th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to coincide with Bicycle Safety Month. This event will not only give the chance for a lucky child to receive a bicycle and helmet, but will also offer valuable training for children of all ages, and culminate with a community bicycle ride with officers. The event will be held in the parking lot of the St. Joseph’s College Station Medical Office building located at 4421 State Hwy 6 (next to Lowe’s).
This event is open to all community members and offers an opportunity for children and adults of all ages to learn and practice bicycle safety riding skills while riding with police officers. Registration will be held the day of the event for the community bike ride with police officers. The bike ride will be held at 2 p.m. and will begin at the Lowe’s parking. We would like to invite everyone to join us at St. Joseph’s Safety Circus to learn about safe practices and enjoy a fun day of safe bicycling in our community.
