COLLEGE STATION, Texas College Station is catching the attention of a consumer finance group as one of the top ten cities on the rise in Texas.
News 3 spoke with city officials and the Texas A&M System about what this free publicity means for future growth.
As the BioCorridor expands and more businesses move in the area's economy continues to boom.
College Station is now the 7th fastest Texas city on the rise, according to Nerdwallet, a consumer finance group.
"My first question was what is Nerdwallet, but actually it came as no surprise. College Station is consistently mentioned in a number of publications," said Kelly Templin, the College Station City Manager.
Templin says sound city policies have helped to get to this point, but it's too soon to say the value of this free exposure.
"Certainly any great publicity like this is valuable to the city. I guess we'll never know the real value until somebody comes in and says we located here simply because we read about you on NerdWallet," Templin said.
Nerdwallet's top ten list included some other prominent city's including the Woodlands as number 1.
Mission, Texas came behind College Station at 8.
Steve Moore is the Vice Chancellor of Marketing and Communications for the Texas A&M System.
"We are the largest research university in the Southwest now at Texas A&M and that brings a lot of interest and it brings a lot of different people coming here looking at things and I expect over the next five to ten years that's going to be a catalyst for a lot more growth in the community," Moore said.
Susan Vestal, Senior Vice President for The Research Valley Partnership said in a statement,
"Our economic development activities give priority to projects and initiatives that bring both economic and social impact – locally and globally. From vaccine manufacturing to supporting start-up companies with game-changing technologies,
it’s about impacting life for the greater good. Companies and employees who want to make a difference want to be here," she said.
A new ranking from a smart-sounding source.
