College Station Area Among Nation’s Best for Working Retirement

The College Station area is among the top 25 places in the country for “working retirement,” according to Forbes magazine.

“Retirement no longer necessarily means totally leaving the workforce and living on pensions, Social Security and any other accumulated nest egg,” the magazine said. “It can also mean transitioning to part-time work. More and more retirees are opting to work, even into their 70s.”
Forbes lists the best 25 cities alphabetically and does not rank them. About half the listed cities are also home to major universities. The only other Texas cities on the list are Austin and San Angelo.

Most of the list is based on such factors as job growth and sustainability, wages and salaries, technology growth, taxes, unemployment rates, cost of living, medical care, crime rates and climate.

“It’s no secret to those of us who live here that College Station offers a tremendous amount of value to people looking for a place to live in retirement,” said Marci Rodgers, senior services coordinator for the City of College Station. “The city is committed to working with others in the community to make College Station an inviting place for people easing into their retirement years."
