Big news out of College Station this weekend after efforts to recall the Mayor and two council members fail in a big way.

More than 72 percent of College Station voters said "no" to recalling Mayor Nancy Berry, Council Member Katy-Marie Lyles and Dave Ruesink.

"It will send a loud message that we don't want a special interest group to take over the city," said Mayor Nancy Berry of College Station.

"It's extremely good to know that we're supported by the people and we can move forward and do what's best for them," said Katy-Marie Lyles, College Station City Council Member for Place 4.

Timothy Delasandro with the Save Wellborn Group also weighed in on the results Saturday night.

"Obviously we are disappointed with the outcome. We knew recall was going to be contentious. We felt it was a measured response to the City of College Station not listening to its own citizens on the [annexation] vote," said Timothy Delasandro.

No word yet on what Save Wellborn's next move will be; however we're told they will continue the political action process.

In other news Blanche Brick will be the new Council Member for Place 1.

Outgoing Council Member John Crompton wasn't able to run again because of term limits.

Karl Mooney will be the new Council Member for Place 3 .

And for Place 5 we've learned there won't be a run off. Sherry Ellison is bowing out meaning Julie Schultz will assume that position.

Schultz was just ten votes short of a winning a majority in the election.

"I hope I do a good job. I love this community and I think as long as I just keep that in mind I hope that helps me make the right decisions," said Julie Schultz, Council Member-Elect for Place 5.

A city spokesperson says the cost for that second election would have been in the neighborhood of $35,000.

Sherry Ellison released a statement saying in part, "I think Julie Schultz and I both want a City Council with members who are willing to listen... And act for the common good....I want the money to be spent on the current needs of the city, not on a runoff election."

An election that has the College Station City Council and City Hall, breathing a sigh of relief.
